Nestled between row houses and one block away from busy Manhattan Avenue in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, the Polish National Catholic Church of the Resurrection’s facade is more reminiscent of New England than it is of New York.

A church has stood at 678 Leonard Street in Brooklyn since 1838, first as the non-denominational Church of the Evangelist, and later as the Christian Church of the Evangelist. Acquired in 1922 by Polish expatriates, the Church has continued to serve the community. The Church of the Resurrection’s mission, however, extends far beyond its Polish origins and it welcomes into its midst members of all racial and ethnic groups who seek the saving power of Jesus Christ in their lives.

We are, first and foremost, Catholic….. a sacramental church which follows the doctrines and teachings of the Apostolic church, but which separated from its Roman Catholic origins over one hundred years ago. The ‘national’ aspect of our Church, however, has less to do with a particular identity than it has to do with independence -– a Church which is democratic in nature, and in which every member gets a voice and a vote — the hallmark of our community.

If you are seeking a Catholic Church:

  • which welcomes all who wish to follow Christ;
  • where each parish decides its own destiny;
  • where property is owned by the parish, not the Diocese;
  • whose priests can marry and bring the wisdom and grace of the Sacrament of Matrimony to their ministry;
  • which regards the Word of God, as revealed in Scripture, as a Sacrament;
  • which offers general absolution as an integral prelude to the celebration of the Eucharist;
  • which does not make judgments when it comes to personal choices such as birth control; and
  • which welcomes those who are divorced and/or remarried to share the Eucharist.

If you are seeking any or all of these things in a Catholic Church, then join us in celebrating the Living God.

Come and feel the spirit of New England freedom in a small and intimate church in the heart of the nation’s melting pot… come to the Church of the Resurrection in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and give praise to God Almighty.
